In an effort to support economically challenged students in their pursuit of higher education, the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) Foundation has awarded a total of Three Hundred and Thirty-Four (334) scholarships to brilliant but needy students at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi for the 2022/2023 Academic Year (Cohort 5). The beneficiaries comprise Two Hundred and Thirty-Five (235) undergraduates, Eighty-Six (86) master's students, and Thirteen (13) Ph.D. candidates. The presentation ceremony took place on Monday, 10th July 2023 at the Conference Room of the Directorate of Student Affairs (DoSA).

According to the Liaison Officer of GNPC-KNUST, Madam Shirley Aboagye Aniagyei, the GNPC Foundation has consistently demonstrated its commitment to providing scholarships to qualified students as part of its core business mandate. This year, she revealed the Foundation awarded a total of One Thousand, Two Seventy-Two (1,272) scholarships, with KNUST receiving the highest number of scholarships among other universities. She emphasised the importance of the scholarship programme in enabling students to pursue their tertiary education.
Madam Aboagye Aniagyei took the beneficiaries through the terms and conditions applicable to them, the payment procedures, and the process for renewing the scholarship. She disclosed that the beneficiaries have an obligation to undertake a community project that will positively impacts the lives of others. Furthermore, she urged the Cohort 5 beneficiaries to uphold the dignity and integrity of the GNPC brand and be studious in their academics.

On behalf of the University's Management, Professor Marian Asantewah Nkansah, the Deputy Director in charge of Housing and Welfare at DoSA, expressed gratitude to the GNPC Foundation for their continuous support in awarding scholarships to economically constrained yet exceptional students at KNUST. She expressed the hope for the collaboration established to continue and for an annual increase in the number of beneficiaries due to the increasing population of brilliant but needy students. She also admonished the beneficiaries to serve as exemplary ambassadors of both KNUST and the GNPC Foundation and encouraged them to work diligently in their academic pursuits.
